Microwaving without plastic

We heard that microwaving with plastic wrap causes potentially bad stuff from the plastic to get in the food. No idea if this is true. (Please comment if you have further info.) But it got us to thinking that it's a waste to use a piece of plastic to cover the food every time we microwave, only to throw it away somewhere to sit for the next 100,000 years. So now we use a ceramic bowl or plate on the bottom (pouring the contents out of a plastic container when needed) and another ceramic bowl or plate on top. Yes, this increases the number of dishes that need washing but it creates much less waste. The food does seem to taste a little better (this might be all in our minds). And our plastic containers last a lot longer without having to go through the regular microwaving.
